Nurtured by SOS family in the Philippines, driven by dreams
Life can be challenging for everyone, regardless of where and how they grew up. However, resilience comes more easily when you have the guidance and support of a family who loves you throughout.
Abby is one of many children who grew up in SOS Children’s Villages Philippines. Today, she is living her life outside of the SOS Village but stays connected with the family who supported her through the good times and the challenges.
Tireless learning
“Aren’t you tired of studying?” Abby often heard this question from her sisters growing up, and each time she would answer, “No!” She loved to learn and dream about her future.
Abby had a happy childhood with her siblings at SOS Children’s Villages Philippines. Though quiet and introverted, she took every opportunity to learn and grow.
She developed leadership skills through the clubs she joined at SOS Children’s Villages and tutored her younger siblings when she came home from school. Her patience, endless perseverance, and love for learning fueled her dream of becoming a teacher.
“A course in education is my first choice, and it’s that or nothing!” Abby dreamed of becoming a teacher since her youth and was determined to pursue a teaching career. Along the way, she faced challenges, from struggling with self-confidence to working hard to earn her certifications.
With perseverance and the support of those who cared for her, Abby has been teaching at a nearby elementary school for over five years and plans to pursue a master's in education.
She occasionally returns to SOS Children’s Villages, where she grew up, and is always greeted with love and warm hugs by her SOS mother and younger siblings. Some bonds can never be broken.
