Kwantlen University College for Chennai

British Columbia and Across Canada

Jeanne Maki's desire to help SOS Children's Villages and its work in Sri Lanka has also sparked a project spanning accross British Columbia at Kwantlen University College - with campuses in Langley, Surrey, and Richmond, BC.

On leave from the College, Jeanne has kept in touch with her colleagues there. When Kwantlen staff member Wendy Royal learned about Jeanne's project, she decided to look into SOS Children's Villages as well.

Kwantlen has staff members who come from both India and Sri Lanka. After some research, the decision was made to raise funds to support the school facilities at the SOS Chennai Village.

The village is located an area of Southern India which was hard hit by the tsunami. Organizers hope to raise enough funds to help ensure that both the kindergarten and primary school in the Village will be able to meet the increased demands for schools which have arisen as a result of the devastation in the area.

Donations from College staff are pouring in, and organizers of the campaign are hoping that the College will match all donated funds.
