Nepal Earthquake Emergency: SOS children and mothers lend a helping hand in times of emergency
In the relief camps set up by SOS Children’s Villages throughout Nepal, children and families affected by the earthquake are being cared for by SOS mothers and youth from local SOS Villages.
SOS is currently operating aid through emergency relief camps in four locations. An emergency relief camps has been set up at the SOS Children’s Village in Jorpati providing aid to victims and people living with a disability.
The SOS Mothers from the Village are providing food and water and tending to the wounded children and families at the camp. SOS youth have been distributing food to victims cooked to by SOS mothers.
SOS Nepal National Director, Shankar Pradhananga, explains the SOS youth and mothers are committed to helping earthquake victims.
“I am very, very proud to say that the co-workers of SOS Nepal are trying their best despite what they feel about the situation in the country,” said Shankar. “It is very touching to see the SOS children and youth helping in the emergency camps. They volunteered to help.”
On Saturday April 25, 2015, a devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake erupted in Nepal. According to officials, over 4,000 people have been confirmed dead and over 100,000 people have been left homeless. SOS Children’s Villages Nepal is working to ensure unaccompanied children in the disaster are not alone.
