From isolation to empowerment: How SOS Children's Villages changed a mother's life in Ethiopia
Fatima is a mother of three, including twin boys and a girl. Her husband works as a shoe shiner but struggles to make ends meet. Before finding help, Fatima felt isolated, stuck at home, and unable to socialize or contribute financially.
That changed when she became part of the SOS Children's Villages community. Fatima received vocational training in garment production, with all costs covered through the economic empowerment program. This training gave her valuable skills and allowed her to earn an income and support her family.
With her newfound financial independence, Fatima can help with the household expenses and provide better care for her children. She's also rediscovered the joy of connecting with others in her community, bringing peace of mind to her daily life.
SOS Children's Villages goes beyond training. The Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre offers Fatima's twins quality education and care, helping them thrive while she works. It also ensures her family stays healthy with access to healthcare and nutrition support. Additionally, Fatima receives emotional support through programs that help her manage stress and connect with other parents.
Through community events like coffee ceremonies, Fatima has formed strong friendships and built a support network.
Thanks to the comprehensive programs at SOS Children's Villages, Fatima feels empowered and confident in creating a better future for her children. With your support, more families like hers can experience the life-changing benefits of SOS Children's Villages Family Strengthening Programs.
