SOS Charity Rider Anas Cheema to Continue Journey with New Bike
University of Victoria student Anas Cheema, whose bike was stolen last Wednesday in Winnnipeg while on a journey across Canada to raise funds for SOS Children’s Villages, will soon be able to continue his journey thanks to new gear donated by supporters in Winnipeg.
Supporters of Cheema’s cause have been eager in replacing the stolen gear necessary to continue the trip. Indeed, just two days after his bike was stolen while on a rest-stop in Winnipeg, Cannondale bikes offered to replace Cheema’s bike.
Winnipegger Allison Doerksen offered her home to Cheema while he was stranded. The international office at the University of Victoria also offered its support by picking up the tab for the gear he needs to carry on. Citizens of Winnipeg showed their support by donating $1, 600 toward his goal of raising $10, 000 for SOS Children’s Villages.
Cheema is overwhelmed by the support he’s been given in helping him finish his journey. On Sunday, he wrote on his Facebook page: “I would like to extend my sincerest thanks and gratitude to Cannondale Bikes, University of Victoria International Office and the people of Winnipeg for supporting me…” adding that “[he is] very excited to get back on the road and fundraise for SOS Children's Villages.”
