SOS Family Strengthening Programs
The most effective way to support children and young people without parental care, or at risk of losing it, is by assisting them and their families before child-family separation occurs. SOS Family Strengthening Programs support disadvantaged families worldwide, aiming to keep families together when in the child's best interest.
Child protection and safety
SOS Children's Villages Family Strengthening Programs work directly with families and communities to empower them to protect and care for their children effectively. Local authorities and other local charities collaborate to implement these initiatives.
Focusing on the most disadvantaged families, our Family Strengthening Programs aim to prevent crises that could lead to child abandonment. We provide caregivers with parenting skills training, support for small businesses and micro-enterprises, and community development initiatives, enabling them to improve the care they provide for their children.
Our programs ensure that children can access essential services while supporting families in their caregiving roles. We strengthen community support systems for vulnerable children and their families by enhancing the capacity of local organizations to prevent and respond to rights violations, including sexual and gender-based violence, and by building community resilience to protect children and support vulnerable households.

Our goal
Our approach addresses the immediate needs of families and vulnerable children while empowering them to become self-sufficient in the longer term. Ultimately, we aim to enable local communities to support vulnerable families independently without relying on SOS Children's Villages.
