SOS Children's Villages in Muyinga
SOS Children's Village Muyinga is located on a small hill (Mukoni), about 4.5 km from the provincial capital of the same name.
Only a few small farmers live in the area directly beside the SOS Children's Village. Muyinga has a hospital, a large market and a secondary school.
The SOS Children's Village can be reached by car via Ngozi, where there is also a small airfield.
SOS Children's Village Muyinga, which has been open since 1998, has 15 family houses and can take in a total of 150 children. It has a village director's house, an administration building and a house for the SOS aunts (SOS mothers in training, who actively support the SOS mothers).
The SOS Children's Village also has a youth facility with one building for girls and one building for boys, which both have eight communal rooms. The youth facility can take in up to 24 young people and supports them in becoming independent. They have a communal kitchen, a lounge and a dining room.
The SOS Children's Village also includes an SOS Kindergarten and an SOS Hermann Gmeiner Primary School.
The kindergarten, which is also open to children from the neighbouring areas, opened in 1988. It consists of three rooms, a kitchen and several annexed halls and can accept up to 75 children.
In 1996 a primary school for 432 more children was also built, in which children from both the neighbouring areas as well as from the SOS Children's Village can be taught in twelve classrooms. The school has a library, an administration block and a multi-purpose hall for the children's various activities.
