SOS relies on the kindness and generosity of Canadians to be able to provide a home for the most vulnerable children around the world.
SOS Children's Villages in Harksheide
The SOS Children's Village Harksheide is situated in the city of Norderstedt, close to Hamburg and was officially opened in 1962. About 54 children have found a new home in the 12 family houses.
Additionally, a training centre was erected in 1984, offering ten to twelve training posts in home economics for learning disabled youth and young adults, who need intensive support in order to complete their vocational training. The training centre is unique in this region of Germany and offers support in vocational and school affairs as well as educational aid.
Two educational communities for young adults and two family counselling centres in Hamburg do also belong to the SOS Children's Village Harksheide.
