A warm welcome at the SOS Children’s Village in Namibia

When I entered the Village for the first time I was greeted with the most incredible welcome dance. A huge group of children – probably half of the Village – and SOS mothers and staff were waiting with big beautiful smiles for my arrival. Children were holding handmade signs with my name and waving miniature Canadian flags.

Children started performing traditional dances and singing songs, which I joined in. Although I had no idea what I was doing, their beautiful energy made me feel so welcome! After the celebration, the children from my SOS family took me by the hand to show me where I would be staying for the next week. It was really emotional for me - I felt so at home after only a few minutes – and I knew this was going to be a very special adventure.
