A warm welcome at the SOS Children’s Village in Namibia
When I entered the Village for the first time I was greeted with the most incredible welcome dance. A huge group of children – probably half of the Village – and SOS mothers and staff were waiting with big beautiful smiles for my arrival. When I got out of the car, Elizabeth, the SOS mother of the family I was going to live with gave me a big welcoming hug. Children were holding handmade signs with my name and waving miniature Canadian flags.
Children started performing traditional dances and singing songs, which I joined in. Although I had no idea what I was doing, their beautiful energy made me feel so welcome! After the celebration, the children from my SOS family took me by the hand to show me where I would be staying for the next week. It was really emotional for me - I felt so at home after only a few minutes – and I knew this was going to be a very special adventure.
