Jorpati is located on the outskirts of the capital, Kathmandu, and was one of the Children’s Villages closest to the epicentre of the Nepal earthquake.

Consequently, the Jorpati SOS Children’s Village is currently serving as an emergency relief camp for hundreds of people. The village grounds are covered in tents, and first aid is provided to those injured, while SOS mothers take more under their wings and prepare food to the hungry women and children.

The SOS Children’s Village Jorpati in Nepal was inaugurated in 1982 in the presence of SOS founder Hermann Gmeiner. Since its opening, it has served as a home for children with special needs that come from all over the country.

Services for these children are provided in conjunction with a local agency. Workers here are specialists in treating children with special needs.

SOS Children's Village Jorpati consists of five family houses and another building with an office, the village director's apartment and a therapy room with a small pool for physical therapy. The houses were specially designed to meet the unique requirements of physically challenged children.

SOS also provides education to meet the needs of the children, providing tutors to help kids catch up if they missed school for medical treatment, and preparing them for school outside the village.

The community also has two SOS Youth Facilities in the inner city, one for boys and one for girls, for those growing children transitioning to adulthood and independent life.
