About SOS Kindergartens

Children from SOS Children's Villages attend kindergartens in their community unless they are inadequate or do not exist, then SOS Children's Villages builds its own preschool facilities. Early learning is made available to children in the local neighbourhood when otherwise unavailable. SOS Kindergartens are run and resourced by SOS Children's Villages. Worldwide, 215 SOS Kindergartens employ 1,731 staff members.

Our teaching methods

SOS Kindergartens use Montessori teaching methods. The Montessori Method is an approach that emphasizes the child's psychological, physical and social development, taking into account local cultural norms and emphasizing the child's independence, natural creativity and development at their own pace.

The Montessori Method includes:

  • During free play, children interact with their peers, choosing what to play, with whom, how long, and where, allowing them to make decisions based on their own lives and imaginations.
  • Daily activity time encourages children to explore and understand their environment through thoughtfully prepared activities.
  • We design classrooms, games, and toys to provide children with the best environment for developing their social, intellectual, and creative skills, all with the guidance and support of dedicated educators.

Family strengthening

SOS Family Strengthening Programs utilize SOS Kindergartens to empower the local community and help prevent child abandonment. SOS Kindergartens provides a safe place for parents to leave their children while they are at work while offering quality preschool education to the children. Parents are also provided with training to assist in building the necessary competencies needed to care for their children.
