Response to Federal Election Results
OTTAWA – October 20, 2015 – Over the past seventy-eight days Canadians have had the opportunity to hear from all political parties on critical issues of foreign policy and international development. SOS Children’s Villages was pleased to see the attention that these issues were given throughout the election campaign.
Canadian’s have elected the 42nd Parliament of Canada and we look forward to working with all Parliamentarians to make Canadian international development assistance more effective for the world’s most vulnerable children and families.
For more than 65 years, SOS Children’s Villages has worked to prevent family breakdown and to protect and care for children who have been orphaned, abandoned, neglected or abused. We work with local communities, partners and governments to ensure that the rights of all children are respected and fulfilled.
In 134 countries around the world, SOS Children’s Village supports over 2 million beneficiaries through alternative family-based care for orphaned and vulnerable children, community development programs, schools, vocational training programs, medical centres and emergency relief programs. We look forward to working with the newly elected Government of Canada in areas where our interests align.
