Learning to dream big in Pakistan: Salma’s journey

At first glance, Salma’s story is about personal determination and academic success. But when you look closer, you see something even more powerful, the impact of a supportive learning environment, dedicated teachers, and an institution that believes in its students.
Salma’s journey began with a dream, but dreams need opportunity and encouragement to take flight. She found both at the SOS Technical Training Institute (SOS TTI) in Karachi.
A place to learn and grow
Coming from a large family with limited financial means, Salma knew that education would be her path to a better future. However, finding the right institution, one that was affordable but also welcoming and safe was crucial.
That’s where SOS TTI made all the difference.
The structured learning, the discipline, and, most importantly, the unwavering support from her teachers gave her the confidence to push forward. Her tuition was subsidized, ensuring young women like her have access to quality technical education.
Her time at SOS TTI was more than just about learning technical skills—it was about building confidence, resilience, and self-belief. This led her to discover her affinity for languages and would define her next steps.
With support from the Sindh Education Foundation, Salma enrolled in a three-year Chinese language course, a decision that would change her life. Not only is she mastering a globally important language, but she is also giving back to her community.
While completing her program, Salma teaches basic Chinese and data management at the Sindh Education Foundation School. She walks several miles every day to reach her students, ensuring they, too, can dream beyond their circumstances.
A path to independence
Salma’s success is not just academic; it is deeply personal. With the salary from her teaching job, she no longer relies on financial support from her family.
The education she received at SOS TTI didn’t just train her for a job; it gave her the confidence to break barriers. She continues to dream of bigger things for herself, now with the goal of becoming a full-time language instructor or translator at Karachi University’s Foreign Language Institute.
The power of support and encouragement
Salma’s story proves that young people can achieve incredible things with proper support. At SOS TTI, she didn’t just gain skills—she found mentors who believed in her, a community that uplifted her, and a safe space where she could dare to dream big.
Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of education. When we invest in students like Salma, we are not just changing one life. We are empowering future generations.
