SOS relies on the kindness and generosity of Canadians to be able to provide a home for the most vulnerable children around the world.
SOS Children's Villages in Colón
The fourth SOS Children's Village in Panama is located in Puerto Escondido, not far from the harbour town of Colón. Colón province lies on the coast of the Caribbean Sea and is the fourth-largest province of the country. Studies have established that 250 children work and barely survive on the streets and that is why there is a real need for a facility that provides a family-based care on a long-term basis. Local authorities, especially those dedicated to youth work, are supporting the construction of the SOS Children's Village.
The conversion of the transit home into an SOS Children's Village was started in June 2007 and completed in 2009. It consists of 10 family houses, the village director's house and an administrative building and can give a new home to up to 90 children. The 6 houses of the transit home, the kindergarten and the multipurpose room were remodelled and converted into 9 family houses and an additional family house was constructed. Within easy reach of the SOS Children's Village, there are schools, hospitals and shopping facilities.
